Dubbed the City of Gold, Johannesburg really took off after the discovery of one of the richest deposits of gold in the world. Mined for over 100 years, gold and its association has shaped the face of Johannesburg. Part of this fascinating history comes with the collection of cultures from all over South Africa, and in more recent times, the struggles of Apartheid were felt very strongly here.
